Milwaukee, WI – Next Act Theatre will bring the 2017-18 season to a stunning conclusion with a breathtaking play from America’s most produced living playwright. I AND YOU by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to youth, life, love and the mystery of the human connection. It will run April 4 – 29, 2018 at Next Act’s home, 255 South Water Street, in Walker’s Point.
Anthony arrives at schoomate Caroline’s house bearing waffle fries, a battered poetry book and an urgent homework assignment. Caroline is sick and hasn’t been to school in months. She is as quick and elusive as Anthony is quiet and steadfast; both are smart as whips. As these two let down their guards, their seemingly mundane poetry project reveals a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. With its stunning conclusion, Gunderson’s I AND YOU is a joyful celebration of the beauty of human connectedness.
“This brilliant theatrical gem focuses upon two young people yearning for connection. Gunderson hits home with clarifying insight into the lives of teens. The final minutes will make your heart break, and sing, all at once,” says Producing Artistic Director David Cecsarini.
Opening night is Friday, April 6. Tickets range from $28 – $38 and may be purchased by calling 414-278-0765 or visiting www.nextact.org.
David Cecsarini will direct the production as well as design Sound. The cast will feature Cristina Panfilio, last seen at Next Act in THE OTHER PLACE, and, making his Next Act debut, Ibraheem Farmer (First Stage).
The production team includes Scenic Designer Rick Rasmussen (SILENT SKY, BLOOMSDAY, UnSILENT NIGHT), Lighting Designer Mike Van Dreser (UnSILENT NIGHT, BRAVO, CARUSO!, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE LIVE RADIO SHOW), Costume Designer Lindsey Kuhlmann (GROUCHO: A LIFE IN REVUE), Co-Properties Designers Heidi Salter and Shannon Sloan-Spice (EQUIVOCATION, THE SECRET MASK, SILENT SKY), and resident production Stage Manager Jessica Connelly.
