Laughter at Next Act this Holiday Season

Milwaukee, WI – To celebrate its 30th Anniversary, Next Act Theatre will revisit the hilarious world of the comedy writers’ room with Neil Simon’s LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR, originall produced in 2000. The hit Broadway show pays homage to Simon’s early days writing jokes for Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows. LAUGHTER will run November 21 – December 15, 2019 at Next Act’s home, 255 South Water Street, in Walker’s Point. Opening is Friday, November 22, 2019. Tickets range from $30 – $40, plus fees, and may be purchased by calling 414-278-0765 or visiting nextact.org.

Wide-eyed Lucas Brickman is a fledgling comedy writer working with some of the funniest – and craziest- writers in 1950’s television. While his colleagues try to top each other’s gags, head madman Max Prince contends with the NBC brass who are threatening to pull their groundbreaking show off the air.

“Neil Simon’s genius was to harness the tremendous comic mayhem which surrounded him as a young writer and create a story about a crazy family who laughed and loved, simply because they wanted to the world to smile,” says Producing Artistic Director David Cecsarini.

Edward Morgan (OUTSIDE MULLINGAR, THE SECRET MASK, UnSILENT NIGHT) will direct the production. The cast will feature Dylan Bolin (LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR, 2000), David Cecsarini (OUTSIDE MULLINGAR, EQUIVOCATION, UnSILENT NIGHT), Mohammad N. ElBsat (BACK OF THE THROAT), Karen Estrada (SILENT SKY), Rick Pendzich (GRACE), and Next Act newcomers Adam Qutaishat, Lyndsay Webster and Zachary Thomas Woods.

The production team will include Scenic Designer Rick Rasmussen (THE TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS, OUTSIDE MULLINGAR, I AND YOU), Lighting Designer Michael Van Dreser (THE TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS, I AND YOU, UnSILENT NIGHT), Costume Designer Amy Horst (HOW TO WRITE A NEW BOOK FOR THE BIBLE, MARY’S WEDDING, LOMBARDI: THE ONLY THING), resident Properties Master Heidi Salter, resident Sound Designer and Next Act Producing Artistic Director David Cecsarini and resident Production Stage Manager Jessica Connelly.
