Milwaukee native Al Jarreau — the seven-time Grammy-winning jazz vocalist who passed away Feb. 12 — will be honored by the United Performing Arts Fund at its 50th anniversary campaign kickoff March 6 at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater.

Jarreau was a strong advocate for the local non-profit, writing an editorial in the Journal Sentinel on its behalf last March.

In October, Jarreau came to his hometown to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Wisconsin Foundation for School Music. While in Milwaukee, UPAF conducted an on-camera interview with Jarreau for a fundraiser video, which will premiere at the campaign kickoff.

The 5:30 p.m. event will also feature performances by UPAF member groups. Registration is $10 at bit.ly/2017UPAFLaunch.
