Florentine Opera / Don Giovanni

Don Giovanni is an opera in two acts with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to an Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte.

First performed in 1787, Don Giovanni is Mozart’s exhilarating retelling of the Don Juan legend, filled with some of his most famous and much-loved music. Combining comedy and tragedy, the opera follows the notorious womanizer as he lusts his way towards his dramatic downfall.

"Sidekick Leporello follows the notorious and unapologetic nobleman Don Giovanni (yes, that Don Juan) as he waltzes through life with a scandalous checklist: seduction, deception, and, naturally, leaving a trail of broken hearts and vengeful fiancés. Despite plenty of red flags (and, let’s be honest, a few angry mobs), he shrugs off every warning like yesterday’s conquest. No lesson learned, no apologies offered—until fate shows up, ready to dish out a final, fiery “we need to talk.”

“Music is Life, and like it, it is inextinguishable.” Composer Carl Nielsen penned these words across the top of the score of his Fourth Symphony, now best known as “The Inextinguishable” — the Fourth sets out to “express what we understand by the spirit of life or manifestations of life, that is: everything that moves, that wants to live.” Nielsen never provides a clear story, instead unleashing the music to express a range of pure feeling, both primal and pleasantly chaotic; guest conductor Rune Bergmann is perfectly suited for this ambitious symphony.
