Verdi’s Rigoletto

Verdi’s Rigoletto

Italian blockbuster! Traditional grand opera at its best with love, betrayal, and sacrifice.

Sung in Italian

Duration: 2h 10min

If you love catchy tunes like  “La donna e mobile”, chorus and melodrama, this is for you. Artistic Advisor Francesco Milioto (Chicago Lyric Opera, Santa Fe Opera) debuts at the Florentine in this traditional production with a modern touch. Victor Hugo’s play inspired this early Verdi masterpiece.

A courtier cursed the Duke and his hunchbacked jester Rigoletto after the Duke seduced his daughter with Rigoletto’s encouragement. Rigoletto and his sheltered daughter Gilda tug at our heartstrings, as the licentious Duke then seduces her in a long line of conquests. The curse comes to fruition when Gilda falls in love with the Duke and sacrifices her life to save him from the assassin hired by her father.
