Governance and Accountability

A gift to UPAF is a gift you can feel good about.

A gift to UPAF is a gift that supports our incredible performing arts resources and makes our community a better place to live. The money that you give is allocated to 14 Member Groups including First Stage, Floretine Opera Company, Milwaukee Ballet, The Rep, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Skylight Music Theatre, as well as 14 smaller Affiliate Groups.

We take our role as stewards of your gifts very seriously and make the most of every donation, ensuring that the funds are used in the best way possible.

Sound Financial Practices

UPAF’s sound fiscal management practices and commitment to accountability and transparency earns the organization a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity watchdog.

Making Sure Your Donation is Used Wisely

Each year, Member Group allocation figures are determined by an independent committee including representatives from some of UPAF’s largest corporate donors, including Northwestern Mutual, Johnson Controls, We Energies and Baird.

The Allocation Committee reviews Member Group financial statements, as well as information about their overall management, and education and outreach programs. The information, along with a face-to-face meeting with a panel of our committee members, is used to assess the group’s stability and sustainability and is part of the final determination for fund allocation.
