Renaissance Theaterworks Promotes Lisa Rasmussen to Managing Director

Milwaukee’s only professional women-found, women-run theater company celebrates its new Managing Director, to begin in December 2017

Milwaukee, Wis. (October 10, 2017) – Renaissance Theaterworks (RTW) announces the promotion of Lisa Rasmussen as the company’s new Managing Director. Co-Founder and Artistic Director, Suzan Fete shares, “I’m thrilled to lead Renaissance Theaterworks alongside my dear friend, inspiring colleague and partner-in-crime: Lisa Rasmussen!  I believe I am the luckiest girl in the world; I get to go to work every day with the finest, most dedicated theater professionals in the world (seriously they are!)”

Rasmussen has served as RTW’s Director of Development for the last 9 seasons. Since 2008, Rasmussen has exceeded income goals and has grown RTW’s income by 120%, attributing to the company’s 25 years of debt-free operation. Rasmussen holds a Bachelors of Arts in Theatre & Phycology from Cardinal Stritch University, in addition to her over 15 years of experience in development, marketing, and non-profit theater management. Rasmussen shares, “It is my life’s passion to support human connection through superb storytelling at Renaissance Theaterworks. Also, the current gender disparity in theater business is not widely known. I am energized to help build awareness and work toward change. What gets me up every morning is helping to create a home for women in Milwaukee theater.”

The 2017-2018 season marks 25 years for RTW, sharing women’s stories and promoting the work of women theater artists onstage and off. Rasmussen will work alongside Fete and the RTW Board of Directors to lead the staff in continuing to produce the critically acclaimed “theater by women, for everyone,” Milwaukee has come to love. “The transition from Development Director to Managing Director is an exciting challenge for me, personally and professionally.  I am thrilled to deepen Renaissance Theaterworks’ relationship with all that is good in Milwaukee and to help where growth is needed in areas of inequality. I look forward to building on our past success to bring Renaissance to the next level in the next 25 years,” says Rasmussen.

Rasmussen will assume full Managing Director duties in December 2017, following Producing Director, Julie Swenson’s departure from the company. “We are grateful for this unique opportunity to work with Julie through this transition,” said Fete, who along with Rasmussen, RTW’s staff and Board of Directors, is discussing plans for a new Development/Grants Manager to assume these duties as Rasmussen transitions to Managing Director. RTW will announce this job posting at a later date.
